Who Is Iris Apfel?

When I look at the similarities between myself and Mrs. Apfel, I can not help but giggle with glee. She loves statement accessories, I adore statement them, she became an interior designer after a reassessment of her career like I did, she believes that the connection between fashion and interior design go hand in hand and so do I. We are literally soul sistas! Check out her book Rare Bird of Fashion available through Amazon. She also has a fabulous jewelry line available on HSN.

The World As We Know It...

There's something brewing in the air y'all and it ain't the smell of TEA. America is waking up into a global consciousness surrounding many issues. Many of us have hit the snooze button and many of us are in a deep sleep but for those of us who smell the stench of injustice and no longer wish to tolerate it- we are airin' it out, honey! In a world that has become increasingly connected economically, through religion, in foreign policy and (yes) design- any form of exclusion as it relates to people is unacceptable. In fact, any total disregard for diversity within the realm of any industry is a detriment to the world at large. We are here on this Earth in this (thing called "life") together. So let's move forward. Injustice for one, is an injustice to us all. The revolution does begin at home. What are you doing to change the game?

Honor Your Space With A JuJu Hat or Two

Juju hats have recently found their way into westernized interiors lately but truth be told they have been around for quite some time now. Once adorned by royal chiefs in Cameroon society, these beautiful head dress pieces, also known as Tyn hats were worn to during ceremonies to symbolize freedom, prosperity and beauty throughout the region. They are now available in a myriad of colors to add a sense of whimsy into any space but they also render a sense of cool sophistication when utilized in white. Check out echochic.com.au and see for yourself.

Who Is John Houshmand?

Some would say he is a designer, a photographer, a sculptor or even a ceramicist. I think he is simply divine. The Dutch-Iranian designer grew up in the Philliphines, Great Britian, Iran and Israel. After graduating with a BA in Art History from Yale, he quickly immersed himself into various artistic realms which ultimately led into his romance with furniture.  His use of reclaimed wood in the industry has been unparalleled. But don't just take my word, check out his work today.http://johnhoushmand.com

My New Obsession with Iteun Basi

If fashion is suppose to be sexy and exuberant, then Iteun Basi certainly fits the bill. This talented woman began her career designing bridal wear in the UK. But in 2008, after a twenty year stint designing for other labels, she decided to take a leap of faith and returned home to her native land of Nigeria  to launch her on line. Since then she hasn't looked back where she has managed to give back to emerging African fashion designers. Her use of color and vibrant prints is inspirational to any fashionista who dares to be different and for that reason alone she is Le Rapport Minoritaire's designer of the month.

You too can achieve this bold look by simply refurbishing an old worn out wing chair and using a beautiful tribal wax fabric to breathe new life into it. "Vive le Africa!" Chairs by Anthropologie.
