I need a hero...
Sitting here going through a myriad of design magazines (which I shall not name) where I came across an article with a manifest of "20 Interior Designers To Watch" and there was not a single person of color among them. Why is that? Are there not any creative minds of relevance in the field? That is absurd. I'd hate to be controversial on such a relevant topic or marginalize a craft that I am so passionate about. But I a would like to know what the criteria is for these magazines who routinely compile these type of lists. I suppose its all relative due to the fact for every list I have seen in hard copy or on-line they all manage to be completely different. So there is no consensus on who actually is at the top of their game. So are these lists based upon these designer's bodies of work or more or less how fabulous their publicists are? Is it me? Is there a major void here regarding the lack of representation of our presence in the field. When I was a student in design school I constantly looked for designers who looked like me that were successful within the mainstream. Now many years later, I have found not much has changed. I need a hero. We all do!

The Indelible Lance Gross
Eye Candy: Interview With Lance Gross | Bitchie Life
This exquisite piece of eye candy by one of my favorite bloggers today. Is he the "new Denzel" or will he make a mark of his own? Look out for him on Tyler Perry's "House of Payne" and decide for yourself.

Break Out The Paint and Let Freedom Ring!
Take some old lawn chairs and give them a patriotic flair on this fabulous holiday weekend. You'll be reminded of the sacrifices of the brave men and women serving our country while the kids will be reminded for a lifetime of how much fun they had with mom and dad.
